Mo Works at the Paris Fintech Forum 2019 – Empowering Women in Fintech

As part of the Victorian Government Fintech Trade Mission, Mo Works attended Europe’s leading digital finance and Fintech event – the Paris Fintech Forum 2019.

The Paris Fintech Forum was held over two days (29th and 30th of January 2019) where industry leaders took the stage to address the most crucial aspects around blockchain, cryptocurrency, and Fintech.

More than 220 speakers from over 60 countries shared their experience and knowledge to 2,600 delegates.

The financial sector has been an industry where most of the business is conducted by men in senior positions, leaving women under-represented.

According to research by DHR International, a headhunting firm, only 8 per cent of Fintech directors in the world are women.

Some claim that gender bias in the Fintech sector is caused by the traditional and conservative perception that the finance and technology sector is a boys-only club.

However, while still in its infancy, the Fintech sector started welcoming some promising female entrepreneurs which predominantly had male directors and CEOs.

Therefore during the event, Mo Works asked the women delegates from the trade mission how they felt about the women empowerment in Fintech and their advice for women looking to enter the industry.

To start your journey in Fintech, General Manager of FinTech Australia, Rebecca Schot-Guppy advises all women to “take the risk, be resilient and persistent”.

To be a successful women entrepreneur in the Fintech sector “you’ll need to seize the day, take the risk, and go forward in doing what you want,” Director of Certainty Compliance, Michelle East adds.

Here at Mo Works we believe new opportunities like the emerging Fintech industry can help women build experience and add value to diverse spaces by bringing a fresh perspective to the team and work. In turn, new perspectives help bring out better results for everyone involved.
